And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come. (Psalm 71:18, NASB)
This verse expresses my heart’s continual prayer as I am fast approaching another life-milestone: Next month, I will turn 70.
From my picture, you can see that although I am old, I am not yet gray! Yes, that’s my hair with no color added … (I have told my husband not to be surprised if one day I go to bed and wake up the next morning with hair that is suddenly white all over. Oh, by the way, he doesn’t have much gray yet, either.)
So, at age 70, I am going to be a blogger! I never thought I would do such a thing. My social media profile is that of a lurker on Facebook trying to keep up with family. I have never had a desire to put myself “out there” in Facebook cyberspace. In fact, I have had a definite desire not to do so! That is, until now …
It seems that God, in response to my ongoing prayer about proclaiming His might to another generation, chose to begin His answer with a little surprise: I woke up one day only to find myself as the bearer of an intense desire to start a blog (really, Lord? really?). I hardly know what that means!
So, a month later, here I sit at my keyboard ready to publish my first post on my blog. Not only that, with the help of my husband, John, I now have a whole website up and running—waiting for me to begin my long-term wisdom dump (wisdom’s children will vindicate her—or not [Luke 7:35, NIV]). Furthermore, I am jumping into cyberspace waters with both feet by actually posting a picture of me and my husband of 50 years for all to see. (Those who know me well will be shocked.)
Lord willing, I will begin, and finish, telling what I have learned about God’s strength to anyone who might be interested, and especially the upcoming generation.
That might just be you.
I will be taking my oldest granddaughter on a trip next week to celebrate her high school graduation and to give her a send-off to college, so my blogging in earnest will begin after I get back!

I recently turned 70, also, and find this very encouraging, as I’m not naturally bent on putting myself out there … been clinging to my “comfort zone” most of my Christian life. But recently the Lord seems to be calling me to take a bit more responsibility to lead with the women at my church, and your testimony of courage to step out on faith gives me an extra leap of faith to trust God and not be afraid to be vulnerable at my age … gray hairs and all !! “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it it God who works in you both to will AND to do for His good pleasure” (Phil. 2: 12-13). I’m looking forward to getting more help from your blog. Thanks!
What a great decision! Love to read your blog! Have a great trip with your granddaughter! I’m try to pop on and check out your writing!
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Let’s remember our verse as we head into the future.
On my parents 50th, our invitations highlighted this verse:
Leviticus 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
It looks like you and John are just getting started!
Maybe we are about to get our big jubilee!
