About the Author

John R. D. Anderson

John Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s with a concentration in linguistics and composition. In their younger years, he and his wife of over fifty years spent twenty years in a church that had a very controlling hierarchical leadership. The leaders’ teaching and practices gradually deviated from the truth of God’s Word and, as a result, hurt many believers and their families. After that personally harmful experience, he spent much time reading and studying the Bible to discover the truth in God’s Word for himself. It was a slow process to disentangle himself from the indoctrination he had received in that church.

As he went to other churches over a period of years, he encountered more of the same kind of compromised, controlling, and hurtful church leaders. After each discouraging church experience, he looked further into the Word of God to separate God’s truth from false teaching and practices. He gradually came to understand that long-standing Christian traditions, not God’s Word, were at the root of the leadership problem he kept encountering. John is now thankful for all these experiences because, through them all, God has instructed him and changed him for the better.

Today, John and his wife fellowship about the Bible and Christian matters on a daily basis. They write and edit together, showing their oneness in Christ as part of God’s new creation. They often refer to themselves as a “them” (Gen. 1:27–28). They hope that their writings will help others find freedom from all counterfeits so they can follow the rightful King of God’s kingdom, hear His voice, and be led by the Holy Spirit.
