Church leaders who believe and promote authoritarian teachings and practices in the church and in the home inevitably create environments that will damage people (broken marriages and families; emotional, mental, and spiritual trauma; financial losses, etc.) Church leaders that use a code of silence to protect themselves and their church’s reputation, even if their claim is that they are biblically “covering in love,” open a door for domestic violence and sexual abuse among Christians, crimes of which women are the main victims.
