In 2010 and 2011, Bill Mallon and my husband, John, and I communicated about making his notes public. Bill gave us written permission to do so and asked John to write a cover letter for his notes by drawing from the material in our seven back and forth emails. It was Bill’s wish that any who were interested in reading his notes would first read the cover letter.

We had intended to make the notes public in 2011, but we eventually decided to wait until we were certain it was the right time. The notes were basically forgotten until recently. When we learned that a number of young adults who had been born into and grown up in the Local Church of Witness were re-evaluating their experience and their trust in Witness Lee and other leaders, we remembered Bill’s notes and realized that now was the right time to make them public.

These notes are historical documents that can serve as collaborative evidence with other documents from the past to help these questioners (and possibly others) ascertain and verify for themselves the truth or falsity of what they have been led to believe about past Local Church “rebellions.”

John’s intent was to write and send a cover letter to Bill for approval in 2011; however, when we decided to wait, he postponed writing it. Bill has now passed on, so we have decided that, out of respect for him and his wishes, the best way to convey his thoughts, heart attitude, and intent concerning these notes is in place of a cover letter, simply to present the back and forth emails between us in 2010 and 2011 that explain the decision to make Bill’s notes public. We respectfully ask that you read them before reading his notes.
